What is involved in CEREC treatment
CEREC is a method of fabricating restorations in our office. This eliminates the need for a dental lab, and also gives us full control over the final product. If changes are needed to achieve the perfect fit, we can correct them immediately, without having to schedule another appointment.
To begin, Dr. Groeber determines the most appropriate restoration for the desired outcome. This may be an inlay, onlay, or crown. Then, the damaged structure is removed. We use local anesthetic to make sure this is a comfortable process. This is similar to getting a standard filling or crown, but this is where the similarities end.
To plan your new restoration, we take optical impressions, not the standard, messy molds that you may have had to endure in the past. To capture the necessary data, the tooth is coated with a tasteless, non-toxic powder, and a special camera snaps a picture and sends it to the software. Here, the standard image is transformed into a 3D model of your tooth, which enables us to design your crown. Once the final data is sent to the milling machine, it takes only about 20 minutes to complete fabrication. Dr. Groeber places the inlay, onlay, or crown after evaluating it for precise fit. The bonding process, and the polished finish on the ceramic restoration leads to durability and aesthetic value similar to the natural tooth.
CEREC technology makes it possible to complete treatment without the need for temporaries or multiple visits. Learn more about this process when you call (864) 216-7997
